This 1973 amc gremlin x already is a distinctive looking classic that has been given a nice upgraded v8. Deep down we all love the look of amc's gremlin. This unique style came from the company's need for a subcompact car, but they didn't have the money for a new platform. So they took a larger hornet and cut against the grain. It gives this car a very dramatic appearance with a long hood and reverse rear deck that was distinctive when new, and now it has matured into a truly iconic shape. From a functional side, it meant a small car that did not feel at all compact on the road. It starts with a professional respray of the correct pewter silver paint. Plus, we all love the body-colored front, aggressive black side trim, and blacked-out rear panel that comes from the gremlin x package. And this one even has great chrome and correct 14-inch wheels with american motors tagging in the center cap. Inside is an attractive black interior that has been given all the right maintenance. In fact, the bucket seats have been nicely reupholstered, and the new carpet is quite plush. Amc had some of the most stylistic readouts of the day, and it only gets better in the machined aluminum dash panel. Open the hood for a bit of a surprise. And while this still carries the badging for that motor, there is a secret in that bright blue block. So this gremlin is really a demon, and the growl of the dual exhaust let's everyone know it, too. But more than just powerful, this is a great cruising classic with features like the three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, front disc brakes, and the assurance of running cool with an aluminum radiator w/electric fan. Complete with the original windows sticker, this is a complete and interesting classic that will always turn heads. But what's really amazing is that this upgraded gremlin is at a darling of a price. Amc always did things a little differently and for those who pay attention the rewards can be huge. For example they gave the javelin a facelift in 1970 that is exclusive to this model year. That makes a genuine sst like this pretty darn rare (only about 19700 produced.) but the coupe's desirability goes beyond just rarity. The original shade of matador red looks nice with plenty of gloss and shine for the show field. The brightwork looks excellent and the full-width rear taillight section is a cool piece not often seen in the '70s. It also has all the right aggressive touches from the hood scoops up front to the wide spoiler in the rear. Plus the factory mag wheels are always a nice touch. It has the correct upgrades for the even rarer mark donohue edition (only 2501 were produced) and the code 79 on the included build sheet backs this up. That said it cannot be 100% guaranteed whether this car is a real mark donohue edition or not. It's hard not to fall in love with a pure red interior. That means the bucket seats carpets and door panels all nicely coordinate with the exterior color. But amc wanted to get attention so there was wood paneling on the dashboard and center console. Amc would introduce the larger motor the following year but this rare sports car couldn't resist the added displacement... And it didn't stop just there. Besides looking great with plenty of brightwork and fresh wires & hoses this one has plenty of extra performance too. But besides being a street-eating muscle car amc made sure the javelin could be an everyday cruiser too. The red and white pinstripes hug the coke bottle curves; the waterfall grille is complete; and the bright 14-inch wheels even have american motors tagging in the center cap. Inside is an attractive black interior that has been given a good balance between originality and proper updating. For example, the factory am/fm stereo is still in the dash, but the real tunes come from a modern am/fm/cd stereo w/aux input that's hidden in the glove box. The black leather seats are in great condition, and the same can be said for the door panels, carpeting, and headliner. Amc's 304 cubic-inch v8 is always was great to see in the hornet, especially with the bright air grabber and valve covers. It could move these compacts around with authority, and this one does it even better than the factory. This gives the hornet x an even greater sting on the road and a true presence with the rumble of the dual exhaust. But there's much more to this classic. It has been given the right investments to be a reliable runner, including new upper and lower ball joints.
